As we age, our skin loses its natural glow and appearance. It loses its attractive, youthful appearance and is characterized by uneven texture, wrinkles, and uneven tone. Further aging leads to a natural decrease in the production of collagen and elastin, both essential for the biological functioning of our skin. This can lead to the skin becoming dehydrated, prone to premature aging, and a dull and sallow appearance. Dermal needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, aims to stimulate collagen production and help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, scars, and fine lines. The procedure is extremely popular among those seeking anti-aging treatments with minimal downtime. Accent on Skin uses Dermapen for effective and safe treatments
How DermaPen Can Improve the Skin?
With Dermal Needling, our skin is able to rejuvenate itself by stimulating the production of fresh collagen and elastin. The collagen is stimulated by tiny micro-injuries to the skin, and the body’s natural response is to repair and build new collagen at a much faster rate than normal. This leads to firmer, plumper, and smoother skin, with a rosy, healthy glow. Dermal Needling has been proven to produce excellent results in patients of all ages due to its ability to stimulate new collagen formation 100% naturally. This allows for a natural, ‘just as nature intended,’ rejuvenation of the skin and a great alternative to invasive procedures, such as surgery. To help you better understand this treatment, below, we have discussed the major steps involved in the Dermal Needling Procedure.

Step 1: Skin Assessment and Preparation
At your initial consultation, the Aesthetic Nurse will examine your skin and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for dermal needling. Your medical history is also discussed to assess your general health and assess contraindications such as infection to reduce the probability of any unwanted side effects
One hour prior to treatment The skin is thoroughly cleansed and then numbed with a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.
Step 2: Dermal Needling Procedure
The skin is thoroughly cleansed of numbing cream. Serum such as hyaluronic gel will be used as a glide for the DermaPen and for hydration, or a Vitamin C or retinol serum if there are pigmentation issues
The dermal needling procedure is then performed. The dermapen depth is adjusted by the nurse depending on the areas of the face treated. For example the skin around the eyes is thinner than the cheek skin. There will be several passes over the face and neck. Additional treatments at a later date will encourage the production of more elastin and collagen, thus improving your overall results. The results of the dermal needling treatment are noticeable within days and continue to improve over the next few weeks. A soothing mask is used or LED session post-treatment depending on your needs.
Step 3: Dermal Needling Treatment Aftercare
Once the procedure is completed, there is minimal downtime or recovery period. You can immediately resume your daily activities. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise, swimming pools, spas and saunas for 48 hours. Use gentle non-exfoliating skin care products for the next week. You should also avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen to protect your skin.
*Dermal needling may produce minor bruising, redness, and swelling for a few days. However, this will fade in a few days.
5 Unrivalled Benefits of Dermal Needling
Dermal Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT, has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed by aesthetic practitioners. This non-surgical procedure is ideal for fine lines, acne scarring, stretch marks, loss of firmness, and dull complexion. However, its benefits go beyond just being an aesthetic procedure. Enlisted are some of the benefits of Micro-Needling that most people aren’t aware of.
1. Reduces Discoloration
One of the primary reasons people undergo treatment with Micro Needling is to reduce age spots, discoloration, blemishes, and acne scars. Micro Needling stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin that helps rebuild skin tissue. This results in even skin tone, reduced discoloration, and rejuvenated skin that is healthy and glowing.
2. Helps Rejuvenate Skin Naturally
Skin is the largest organ of the body. As you age, the production of collagen and elastin in your skin slows down, making it saggy and less firm. This often is a direct result of our lifestyle and habits and also due to sun exposure. With Dermal Needling, collagen and elastin production is stimulated, which results in the skin becoming more youthful and firmer. Collagen and elastin assist with your skin’s structure and help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, restore skin elasticity and help fill in acne scars.
3. Minimizes Wrinkles
Wrinkles – the one thing that we all want to avoid but is virtually impossible. We all have them. They’re there to stay. The good news is that these fine lines and wrinkles can be significantly reduced with Dermal Needling. Collagen is a protein that is naturally found in the body. It’s responsible for holding the skin, tendons, ligaments, and joints together. As we age, collagen production slows down, leading to uneven skin tone, fine lines, and wrinkles. By stimulating the production of collagen with Skin Needling, wrinkles are smoothed out. This creates a more youthful appearance and a natural tightening of the skin, which results in a firmer, more contoured appearance.
4. Say Goodbye to Sun Damage
The sun is not your friend. It can cause you to cause your skin to age prematurely and, in rare cases, cause permanent discoloration. It’s important to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, but it can be quite difficult to do this effectively. With the sun being present in our daily lives, it’s hard to avoid exposure. To reduce the appearance of sun damage, it’s important to undergo regular Dermal Needling sessions. The results of Dermal Needling will leave your skin feeling and looking younger with a brighter, more even skin tone.
5. Helps Control Scars
Nasty scars can be a result of a variety of different factors. Scarring is extremely common after surgery, childbirth, accidents, and acne. Dermal Needling helps to stimulate collagen and elastin production, which will help rebuild the skin tissue and restore the skin to its original state. However, to completely remove scarring, it is recommended to undergo the Micro-Needling procedure as often as recommended by your aesthetic practitioner.
DermaPen Treatment and Cost
Although the treatment duration is usually 45mins including post-treatment, it will depend on the area of your body where you are seeking the treatment. We recommend three treatments at 4-6 weeks for an initially focused improvement in your skin. Further treatment sessions will be required to maintain the results. The cost of DermaPen treatment obviously varies depending on the severity of the condition, the frequency of sessions, and the area of the body you wish to have covered, and will be discussed at your initial consultation.
